The History of Valentine’s Day

Written by: Connor Spaulding; Shaya Lehman Abi Haught, Garrett Owens, Michael Sammons, and Sam Summers

This month we will celebrate a holiday called Valentine’s Day. Valentine’s Day happens on the 14th of February every year. Have you ever wondered who started this holiday? Who celebrates it? Well, we did and this is what we found out!   During our research we found that the holiday is in honor of St. Valentine. Now, there are several

stories as to who he is and what part he played in the start of Valentine’s Day. One legend contends that Valentine was a priest who served during the third century in Rome. When Emperor Claudius II decided that single men made better soldiers than those with wives and families, he outlawed marriage for young men. Story has is it Valentine fell in love anyway and was sentenced to death. Before he was put to death, he sent the first valentine to his love. Signed “Your Valentine.”

The Bouncy House

Written By Shaya Lehman & Garrett Owens

The bouncy house was supposed to be our Responsible Student Party for February but it was canceled. It has been rescheduled for March 2, 2012. Each grade will go for an hour. Two people at a time will race through a blow up obstacle course.

Everyone will climb up a climbing wall, go down a slide, and much more.

Everyone will play corn hole, dance, and eat a healthy snack. Stay tuned we will include an article next month about the bouncy house party!
